Last Friday I showed my sketches for the assignment to one of the teachers, and some of the criticism was that my work was too generic (not exact words).
Here is a modified sketch that I just worked on:
I started to think of where it would be cool to see a zombie; a medieval setting, viking setting etc. and ended up with the Roman Empire, which I haven’t seen used too much when making undead.
So what I did was to add legionary armour to the zombie, which I had to google for reference.
I will keep adding more sketches in the next few days, and perhaps scan in some of my sketchbook as well.
Update:
I just remade the dragon head as well. It’s based on a some lizards and crocodiles, to move a bit away from Disney’s dragon design from ‘Sleeping Beauty’ (1959), which has been the basis for a lot of typical fantasy dragons… Just a bit
And a design even further away from the standard fantasy dragon:
This one actually creeps me out a bit. I tried to challenge myself and design a creature a bit different than i usually do… Which seemed to work, so I should probably continue taking small steps out of my comfort zone.
