The illustrations that I’m going to present: (click to enlarge)

Made this one over the night, as I don’t have much to show on the presentation today.
It’s a concept for a futuristic scout on a distant world… *sigh* Yes, “space marines” are fun to create.

D for Dragon Head is done and ready for the presentation on Friday.
Eleven more to go *sigh*
I started with my initial sketch and coloured on a new layer in with a natural brush set to ‘colour’. Adjusted opacity. Made a gradient fill with texture for background, then I started painting with a natural brush set to ‘normal’, with angle jitter turned up to around 70-80%. Then I adjusted levels and saturation.
Here’s the final image:

Update (26. November 2009): I made this in Photoshop, but after a presentation/tutorial by Nigel Dobbyn at the University, I’ve decided to continue this style in the superior (for inking) Illustrator.
This is an experiment. I went away from my sketchy/painty style and went for some comic book-ish style for this piece.
It just started as a doodle, but I kept working on it. The composition is not good at all, but this is one layer, so I can’t move things around easily. Note to self: Start with composition next time.

I could remove the guy to the right and cut away a tiny bit of the backgrond, then it would be solved, but it wouldn’t be a team anymore.
And yes, Mike Mignola is awesome…
I was looking through my sketch folder and found this, which I apparently did 22. October…

…Which I played around with until I got this:

Now I just have to finish the thing.
The balance of the character is of course wrong, but I will fix this later, when I continue working on it.
I will give him/it some weapon and maybe decorate him with skulls and bones, to make him/it become ‘H’ for ‘Hunter’.

Updated after getting feedback from teacher:

Just to give myself motivation an a clear plan to follow I’ve made a list of what I want to draw(mostly characters, as I suck at making environments):
(List will be updated until I’ve decided on what I want to draw)
A: Alien Creature
B: Bridge or Baba Yaga
C: Cannon Bearer, Cthulhu, Crusader or Centaur
D: Dragon
E: Emperor or Epona
F: Femme Fatale
G: Guardian, Galaxy, Goblin or God
H: Hunter
I: Inca
J: Jerusalem
K: Knight or King
L: Lion, Lighthouse or Longboat
M: Minotaur, Monster
N: Night
O: Officer
P: Pirate (yarrrr!!), Planet
Q: Quest
R: Robot
S: Scavenger
T: Tavern, Tower
U: Unicorn
V: Viking, Vampire, Victory or Volcano(-temple?)
W: Wizard, Witch, Werewolf or War
X: “X marks the spot”
Y: Yggdrasil (the world tree)
Z: Zombie Legionary
Last Friday I showed my sketches for the assignment to one of the teachers, and some of the criticism was that my work was too generic (not exact words).
Here is a modified sketch that I just worked on:

I started to think of where it would be cool to see a zombie; a medieval setting, viking setting etc. and ended up with the Roman Empire, which I haven’t seen used too much when making undead.
So what I did was to add legionary armour to the zombie, which I had to google for reference.
I will keep adding more sketches in the next few days, and perhaps scan in some of my sketchbook as well.
Update:

I just remade the dragon head as well. It’s based on a some lizards and crocodiles, to move a bit away from Disney’s dragon design from ‘Sleeping Beauty’ (1959), which has been the basis for a lot of typical fantasy dragons… Just a bit
And a design even further away from the standard fantasy dragon:

This one actually creeps me out a bit. I tried to challenge myself and design a creature a bit different than i usually do… Which seemed to work, so I should probably continue taking small steps out of my comfort zone.
We have been given an assignment again. This time we’re supposed to create a picture for each of the letters in the alphabet. Here’s some sketches I just did in Photoshop:
D for Dragon:

F for Femme Fatale (there’s something wrong with this sketch, but I don’t know what it is):

Z for Zombie:

So I hope to get some constructive feedback. I suspect they’ve expected to see more sketches, but I’ve been busy with other things this week.
I’ve just started on three courses over at FXPHD, simply because I didn’t know much about compositing, which is vital to pass the Advanced Visual Effects module here at Teesside.
